I am totally green when it come to repairing a canoe.
I just received a 20 year old fiberglass canoe. When I looked it over it needs some repairs. There are 3 raised, equally spaced, portions in the botton of the canoe about 2 inches wide and and about 12 inches long - they look like re-enforcements and they are cracked. I don't know what is inside them. The previous owner put some fiber glass sheets over 2 of them and slatherd on some type of epoxy(he wasn't neat and it looks terrible). In addition he smeared some type of epoxy on the outside and in that spot on the inside there seems to be a small crack.
I want to restore the canoe and make it safe as well as attractive. I am thinking about putting kevlar on the inside or outside to make it sturdy( and save weight versus fiberglass).
Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts on the idea in general as well as techniques and suppliers of material. Thanks
