I have a 1975 15' National tri-hull. I have removed the deteriorated floor and stringer. I have recieved many suggestions as to what to use for re-decking from CDX plywood to composite materials. My original intent was to laminate both sides of marine plywood in fiberglass and use this. I have been told that the fiberglass will delaminate from the marine plywood. Is this true? I also thought about using 3/4" marine plywood for the stringer (on edge of course) laminated the same way. The original deck appeared to be 5/8" mahogany with fiberglass only on the top surface, the stringer seemed to be fir or ash with a fiberglass laminate. Am I on the right track? Is there materials out there I can use that would prevent having to replace the floor ever again (composites?)?

Easiest is to replace the stringers and deck with Marine Mahogany Plywood. After the plywood is cut to shape, coat the bottom and edges with Epoxy and coat the top with Epoxy and fiberglass. Meranti ply will work well. We carry a very thin Epoxy called S1 Sealer that will do an excellent job of sealing the bottom and edges of the deck as well as coating the stringers. Use East System or West System and 10 oz. Cloth to cover the deck and tape in the stringers. If everything is well coated with epoxy, you should have no rot problems.
Foam/ fiberglass is impervious to rot, but is a little more expensive and difficult to work with.
