I just sent off an email to Rob Mack about the weight of the Solo Portage. He stated that if I use 3/16" strips as he mentions on his Laughing Loon web page that I should be able to come in near the stated weight of 30 lbs for a the canoe.

Is it possible to order 3/16" strips vs the 1/4" strips that come standard with the strip canoe kits?

If not I'm afraid the boat will be closer to 40lbs and if that is the case I will need to choose a design that is a bit smaller.

One more thing... Are the weights for the Laughing Loon boats on your "Canoe Plans" page for 1/4" construction, or the numbers that Rob Mack has given you using his 3/16" construction?

Looking forward to your response.

Sincerely,
Mark Widrick

Weights in our catalogue are based on ?? strips. Our equipment is set up for ? and is not easy to change. We could plane our strips to 3/16 for you but would have to charge you for the time involved.

With some extra sanding of the strips on the mould and careful resin control you should be able to take off the extra pounds.

Thanks Ric,

I'll be ordering a Wee Robbie kit soon. Just have to wait for the credit card billing cycle :-)

By the way - what is the normal time between shipping and ordering?

Right now, about a week to get most kits out the door. If you want to place an order you can do it at Noahs@noahsmarine.com.
