I am completely re-building a 15' fiberglass fish and ski boat. I will be using it mostly for fishing, but also for pulling skiers. By using the Coast Guard Formula, I figured out that the max H.P is 70. I would love to take advantage of a new 70hp 4 stroke, but the weight of it(340lbs) is so much that I am thinking that it will affect the overall performance. My question is, if I goto a 60hp,50hp or even a 50 2 stroke, will the difference be so much that I will notice it? Or will the weight of it not even be a factor? What is a good balence between the size of the boat, the length, and the weight? Thanks in advance!

Another consideration may be in relation to using the engine for skiing. I'm sure someone more knowledgable can help out here or visit a dealer who sells both types to confirm but...
I believe 2 Stroke is quicker to get up and plane than a 4 stroke which could make a difference depending on skiers ability. Johnston have a DVD about the difference in their new 2 stroke versus a 4 stroke.
