Hatch Design

I am building a Cirrus LT by One Ocean and am about to put the hatches in the deck. Any advice before I get out the jigsaw and cut into the deck? Has anyone built a flush design that is waterproof?

I think the old saying of measure twice and cut once comes in handy here. I dont know of any hatches that are truly waterproof (other than the screw on ones.) If you take a look at the attached picture it's of a flush hatch fastened down with 4 swell latches. The hatch is forced down onto the waterproof weatherseal tape, and i'll think you'll have a hatch that is 99.5% waterproof.
