    Rudder building

    Hello all

I currently in the progress of re-constructing a rudder for my Beneteau First 27 ft. It currently weight 76 pounds, and I am looking to light it a bit.

Would you recommand CoreCell A500 for this kind of utilization?

Corecell with fibreglass will get you a lighter rudder, carbon even less, but without a CNC to cut the blank or a mould of the origional shape it is difficult to get the right profile. A relatively easy way to do a light transom hung rudder is make a blank out of Cedar or Sitca strips edge glued, shape with plane, fairing board and templates, then cover with 6 oz or 9 oz glass and epoxy. Stress areas can be reinforced with uni carbon
