    Question Cat(amaran) Lover

Hello everyone, I'm completely new to the whole boat building thing but, the little info that I have accumulated thus far has led me in the direction of catamarans. I want to build one of these vessels myself in the hopes of sailing around the world. I want to build in steel because I have experience in working metal and welding. I would like to build a craft that is in the vicinity of 40' long by 20' wide. Can anyone tell me if steel is an appropiate building material for this size and type of craft? Thanks.

Defiantly no steel. Rule number one for multihull construction is keep it light. This means foam core fiberglass or wood, and for the larger ones maybe aluminum.

Thanks a lot for your advice, I thought steel might be a no no since all the sites I've visited so far say nothing about construction in steel, Thanks again.
