Sailboat Plans

I am looking for plans for plans for a strip built sailboat in the 13' to 15' range. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I haven't tried to "strip" a sailboat yet but I have built a canoe. I am building a 16 foot daysailer using plywood. From what I have read and seen though, pretty much any small sailboat should be readily adaptable to strip construction (assuming you are building it on a mold). In general the compound curves on a sailboat hull are not as dramatic or put as much stress on the cedar strips as are some of the curves on a canoe. So it should go together fairly easily. I would suggest that you take your time fairing the forms (mold) and make sure you measure accurately around the curve of the hull so that you buy lumber or precut strips which are long enough to accomodate the curve of the hull.

"Wooden Boat Builder" is a MSN Group site which has a lot of great info and pictures and people who love to talk about, build, and mess around with woodies. There are several canoe and 'yak builders whou post on this site. Sorry I don't have a direct link but if you are an MSN group member look under groups>recreation>boating. I am kind of a clutz with computers and don't know how to set up links in a message like this one.

Good luck if you decide to take on this project. I too have been contemplating a stripper sailboat and you have stimulated my thoughts about making it my next project.

In general the length/beam-ratio of a sailboat exceeds that of a canoe, so the above statement may not be true for all designs. Much depends on how the bow and stern were designed.
