I am designing a kayak to be built out of ply. The planks will be joined with thin stringers rather than glass and resin. I plan to use marine ply, probably 4 mm. What is a good choice of wood for the stringers?

The stringers are only to increase gluing area although there are aesthetic considerations. They will need to bend easily and uniformly without splintering, take glue well and have reasonable strength across the grain.

I made a model using Poplar but that might rot easily. I am considering cedar or pine.
