square stern canoe?

I have a 16' white water I built from Gilpatricks plans. I would like to square the stern and mount a motor on it, to use on area lakes.

How would this affect the overall performance from a canoe standpoint?
If it is viable to do this, how much of the stern should I cut off?

I also heard that it is harmful to haul a cedar strip like a boat on a trailer, any truth to this ?

I think you would be better off cutting Gilpatricks laker model rather then his white water? To start with your only working with 16 feet. You should be working with a 20 footer . I would not cut the canoe myself. Its to short. Why not build gilpatricks laker? then make your square stern? Hope this helps

You need a fairly wide, flat transom to support the weight of the motor and the operator so your 16 footer may wind up as a 12 footer. No problem tailoring as long as you build bunks that support the boat properly.
