Boat Lumber

African Mahogany

Afrormosia

Brown to brownish yellow. Heavy and dense with good bending and crush strength. Very durable. Used as a less expensive alternative to Teak Stock Plank Sizes: 1" x 6" to 10" wide x 8' to 10' long

American Cypress

American cypress in 4/4 and 8/4 boards, sold by the board

Basswood

Creamy white, light and soft, works easily. Alternative to Cedar for strip projects or use as accent strips, also good for moulds. Stock Plank Sizes: 1" x 4" to 12" wide x up to 20' long

Reddish Brown with brownish dots, usually straight grain but can be curly. Medium stiffness, good steam bending. Use for thwarts, decks, paddles, interior furniture. Great for clear finishing. Stock Plank Sizes: 1" x 4" to 10" wide x 6' to 10' long

Bubinga

Medium red-brown. Heavy and dense, moderate durability. Use fore furnature, accent strips Stock Plank Sizes: 1" x 6" to 10" wide x to 15' long

Cherry

Medium strength, low stiffness, good bending. Glues, screws and bends well. Use for paddles, thwarts, furniture. Stock plank sizes: 1" rough x 4" to 8" wide x up to 10' long

Douglas Fir

solid douglas fir sold by the board foot in 4x4 and 8x4.

Fijian Mahogany

Maple

Reddish Brown, usually straight grain but can be curly. Medium stiffness, good steam bending. Use for thwarts, decks, paddles, interior furniture. Great for clear finishing. Stock Plank Sizes: 1" x 4" to 10" wide x 6' to 10' long

Meranti - Dark Red

Medium crush and bend strength, low stiffness, good steam bending. Good for planking, stringers, battens, frames. Works well with Epoxy, satisfactory screwing, nail holding, finishing. Stock plank sizes: ¾"dressed x10" x up to 20' long

Padauk Lumber

Vivid redish orange. Heavy and dense, high abrasion resistance. Use fore furnature, accent strips Stock Plank Sizes: 1" x 6" to 10" wide x to 15' long

Purpleheart Lumber

Bright purple. Heavy and dense, high abrasion resistance. Use for furniture, accent strips Stock Plank Sizes: 1" x 6" to 10" wide x to 15' long

Red Cedar

Color mostly light pink with some dark sections. Low strength but light weight. Ideal for Cedar/Glass construction. Stock Plank Sizes 1" rough x4" to 10" wide x up to 20' long

Sitka Spruce

Creamy white, straight grain. High strength to weight ratio, very good for steam bending. Easy to work with good glue, screw and nail holding. Used for masts, booms as well as framing in light weight construction.

Teak

Hard, strong , durable easy to work but dulls tools quickly. Excellent for boat exteriors and interiors. Finishes beautifully with oil, stain or varnish.

Hard, strong , durable easy to work but dulls tools quickly. Excellent for boat exteriors and interiors. Finishes beautifully with oil, stain or varnish

Veneers - Teak & Mahogany & Others

Veneers available in a range of sizes and types ranging from: cherry to teak, also including maple, and both mahogany and african mahogany. some veneers available preglued.

Walnut

Medium to dark brown. Hard and tough, highly durable. Use for yokes, paddles, furniture.

White Ash

Elastic, tough and strong relative to weight. Used for gunwales, paddles, yokes, ribs etc.

White Cedar

Uniform white color. Very light and soft, but good durability, easy to work. Works well for canoes and other light weight watercraft. Stock Plank Sizes: 1" x 4" to 8" wide x 6' to 10' long

White Oak

Hard, heavy, almost waterproof, exceptional wear resistance, good steam bending. Used for framing, keelsons, structural members particularly in larger boats.
